Being Indie: Game documentary about freedom, creativity and self-determination on Youtube

Being Indie Game Developer

With "Being Indie" the YouTube channel PayZed has published a free short documentary about the game industry and German independent developers. The focus is on the four prestigious developer studios Piranha Bytes, Daedalic Entertainment, Deck 13 and Studio Fizbin. In the roughly quarter-hour documentary, cameraman Dustin Hasberg inquires about the experiences of the four game developers in the independent production of computer and video games.

The independent scene of the computer and video game industry is illuminated in the free documentary "Being Indie" by Dustin Hasberg and the YouTube channel PayZed. Cameraman Dustin visited four respected game companies in Germany to document their experiences of independent game development. The filmmaker visited Gothic and Risen developer Piranha Bytes, the adventure specialists from Daedalic, Deck 13 - the makers of Lords of the Fallen - and Studio Fizbin, who was responsible for The Inner World.

What exactly does it mean to be independent? Can every developer be classified in a certain category? These and other questions are answered in the roughly quarter-hour documentary by the managers of the four developer studios. Among others, Piranha Bytes Game Director Björn Pankratz, Creative Director Jan Klose from Deck 13, Daedalic founder Andreas Suika and Alexander Pieper from Studio Fizbin have their say. How these made their way into the game industry and master the independent production of computer and video games can be found in the following YouTube film at the end of these lines.
